How to Use Claude to Build an Email List (Even If You’ve Never Done This Before)

Let Me Be Honest With You for a Second

When I first started trying to build an email list, I was completely lost. Like — embarrassingly lost. I remember sitting at my desk at 11pm, coffee going cold, staring at a blank Google Doc trying to write a “lead magnet” I’d read about in some marketing blog. Two hours later? Three bullet points and a headache.

Sound familiar?

Here’s the thing nobody tells you upfront: the hardest part of building an email list isn’t the tech. It’s not the autoresponder setup or picking a niche or even getting traffic. It’s the writing. The constant, relentless demand for words — opt-in pages, welcome emails, follow-up sequences, broadcast emails, lead magnets… it never stops.

And that’s exactly why I want to talk about Claude today.

So… What Even Is Claude?

Claude is an AI assistant made by a company called Anthropic. You’ve probably heard of ChatGPT — well, Claude is kind of like that, except a lot of marketers (myself included) find the writing it produces feels more… human? Less robotic. Less like a press release written by a tired intern at a Fortune 500 company.

It launched publicly in 2023 and has been quietly getting better ever since. As of 2026 it’s honestly one of the most underrated tools in the affiliate marketing space — probably because everyone’s still obsessing over ChatGPT. Which, hey, means less competition for those of us using Claude. So let’s keep that between us, yeah?

You can use it free at claude.ai. No excuses.

Step 1 — Figure Out Your Niche (Claude Will Help, Don’t Panic)

Before you can build a list, you need to know who you’re building it for. This sounds obvious. It isn’t always. I’ve talked to dozens of beginners who skip this part and then wonder why nobody’s opening their emails.

Ask Claude this:

“I want to build an email list for affiliate marketing. Give me 10 profitable sub-niches that are beginner-friendly, have real problems I can help solve, and have affiliate products available. Show it as a table — niche, audience, product type.”

In about 15 seconds you’ll have a table that would’ve taken you a full afternoon to research manually. Pick the niche that genuinely interests you — because you’ll be writing about it for a while. Passion isn’t everything, but writing about something you hate is… a special kind of torture.

The classic profitable categories? Health. Wealth. Relationships. They’re classic for a reason — people are always desperate to fix something in those three areas.

Step 2 — Create a Lead Magnet Without Losing Your Mind

A lead magnet is the free thing you give people in exchange for their email address. It needs to feel valuable. Specific. Like it actually solves something — not just a generic “10 tips” PDF that could apply to literally anyone on the planet.

Here’s the prompt I use:

“Write a 5-page beginner’s guide titled ‘5 Steps to [Your Niche Result]’. Make it conversational, easy to follow, and genuinely useful. Include an intro, five steps with real explanations, and a short conclusion with a call to action.”

Claude will write the whole thing. The whole thing. In maybe two minutes. You then take that text, drop it into Canva — free, drag-and-drop, no design degree required — add some colour and a nice font, export as PDF. Done. You just made a lead magnet.

I know. It feels like cheating. It’s not. It’s just working smarter.

Step 3 — Write Opt-In Page Copy That Actually Converts

Your opt-in page is where the magic either happens or… doesn’t. It’s the page where someone decides whether your free thing is worth handing over their email address. The copy needs to be punchy. Clear. Benefit-driven. It can’t ramble — people have the attention span of a goldfish in a TikTok world, harsh as that sounds.

Prompt to use:

“Write opt-in page copy for a free guide called ‘[Your Lead Magnet Title]’. Audience is beginners in [niche]. Include a bold headline, 4–5 benefit-focused bullet points, and a short call-to-action. Keep it tight and conversational — not corporate.”

Paste what Claude gives you into whatever page builder you use — Systeme.io, GetResponse, ClickFunnels, whatever — tweak the headline to match your voice, and you’re live. Genuinely, that’s it.

Step 4 — The Welcome Sequence (This Is Where The Money Lives, Actually)

Okay so — this is the part most beginners completely skip and then wonder why their list isn’t making any money. A welcome sequence is a series of emails that go out automatically after someone opts in. Usually 5 to 7 emails. They do a few things:

  • Deliver the lead magnet
  • Introduce who you are (real human, not a faceless robot)
  • Share something useful or personal
  • Eventually… recommend something they can buy

Here’s the prompt:

“Write a 5-email welcome sequence for beginner affiliate marketers in [niche]. Email 1 delivers the free guide. Emails 2 to 4 build trust using tips and a personal story. Email 5 softly recommends an affiliate product. Friendly tone — like a helpful friend, not a salesperson.”

Read what Claude produces. Edit it. Add your name, a real story, something that happened to you. AI is the engine — you’re the driver. Don’t just copy-paste raw AI output and call it done. Your subscribers will feel the difference, trust me.

Step 5 — Keep Writing Emails (Without Burning Out)

Here’s where most list builders hit a wall — what do you even write about after the welcome sequence? Week after week, email after email. It’s exhausting just thinking about it, honestly.

Claude fixes this. Completely.

Try this:

“Give me 10 email topic ideas for an affiliate marketing list in [niche]. Mix educational, story-based, and promotional. Include a subject line for each.”

Then for each one:

“Write a short 200-word email about [topic]. Casual and warm — like I’m talking to a friend. End with a low-pressure call to action to check out [product/link].”

One afternoon. A whole month of emails. Batched, scheduled, done. That’s the kind of leverage that used to cost people thousands in copywriting fees. Now it costs you an afternoon and an internet connection.

A Few Things I’ve Learned the Hard Way

Look — Claude is brilliant, but it’s not perfect. And there are a couple things worth knowing before you go all-in:

Always edit for your voice. Claude writes well, but it doesn’t write like you. Add your quirks. Your phrases. The weird analogy you always use. That’s what makes people actually look forward to your emails.

Be specific in your prompts. Vague prompts = vague output. The more context you give Claude, the better what comes back will be. Treat it like briefing a really smart freelancer who knows nothing about your business yet.

Iterate. If the first draft isn’t right, just say — “rewrite this, more casual” or “make it half the length” or “add more personality.” Claude doesn’t have feelings. Push it until you get something you actually love.

And honestly — save your best prompts somewhere. A Notion doc, a Google sheet, anything. Build a prompt library over time. That thing becomes genuinely valuable.

The Bigger Picture (And Why This Actually Matters Right Now)

We’re in a weird, exciting, slightly overwhelming moment in online marketing. AI isn’t coming — it’s here. The people who figure out how to use it without losing their authentic voice are going to have a massive, almost unfair advantage over everyone else still doing things the old way.

Building an email list has always been the single most reliable way to make money online with affiliate marketing. That hasn’t changed. What’s changed is how fast you can do it now. What used to take months — the lead magnet, the pages, the emails — can now be done in days. Sometimes less.

Claude is your shortcut. Not a replacement for effort. A multiplier of it.
